Big Picture

Rainfall is abating in Himachal Pradesh, though thunderstorm alerts continue, and water levels in major dams like Bhakra and Pong are receding.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting the state to conduct an aerial survey and assess the extensive damage from recent floods and landslides.
Himachal Pradesh has been declared a 'fully literate state,' achieving a literacy rate of over 99.3%, a major developmental milestone.
Significant inter-state aid is flowing in, with states like Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Assam sending financial assistance and relief materials.
The monsoon's aftermath has left severe infrastructure damage, with over 740 roads closed and numerous power and water supply schemes disrupted.
Central teams have begun visiting affected districts like Chamba and Kullu to assess the monetary losses from the disaster.
The state government has put a controversial notification revising employee pay scales on hold following protests from staff.
